Strato ceiling

Strato ceiling

Strato ceilings enable the complete architectural design process to be free and technical at the same time. They can combine opaque components with slightly transparent ones: Stereo acoustic panels and the Stereo Air open mesh panels described in the pages preceding this one. Strato is a continuous floating ceiling, whose combinations are infinite and can meet designers’ requirements in terms of performance and appearance that they expect to deliver with their design. Strato ceilings are pleasant to look at and invitingly warm, while being light, but robust. They are easy to install and maintain.

A Strato ceiling consisting of Stereo acoustic panels and Stereo Air open mesh panels in the Anthos building in Boulogne-Billancourt in western Paris.

A variety of equipment can be concealed above Stereo Air open mesh panels. Depending on requirements, any acoustic or open mesh panel
can be used as a hatch, giving easy access to the space above the ceiling. These hatch panels are nearly undetectable and in no way change the appearance of the ceiling.

Breathing panels filter the light from a source positioned above, allow conditioned air to circulate and present no barrier for the radiation of heat in the building.

Strato is also a technical ceiling offering many ways to accommodate the building’s technical functions – lighting, air circulation, sound, video, smoke detectors, fire alarms, etc. – and to make them visible or invisible.

Strato is totally free of the walls and has none of the usual constraints of a stretch-fitted ceiling or modular tiles mounted on a grid, because it does not have to be installed from wall to wall.

With this system that connects the panels ensuring they are perfectly flat, it is easy to build continuous clusters or elegantly suspended islands.

They lose transparency as you move away from underneath them.

Suspended from the ceiling in clusters with optional recesses for spotlights.

Composition and installation

Strato ceilings enable two complementary components to be combined in varying proportions to suit designers’ needs and ambitions.

Acoustic panels are included to correct sound reverberation.

Open mesh panels are used to hide the space above them without blocking it out completely.

Each panel is supported by a rust-protected metallic frame that is suspended from the roof on ordinary vertical cables.

Depending on requirements, any breathing or absorber panel in a Strato ceiling can become an invisible hatch without changing the ceiling’s appearance, but giving easy access to the technical space above.

The hatch is opened using a very discrete latch.

Accessories

Stereo connecting plates can be used to join panels together precisely and invisibly, simply by overlapping them. The precision they provide enables great flatness and regularity to be achieved on small and very large scales.

Empty frames made of maritime pine create a gap in the middle of a ceiling or between islands of panels. The dimensions of these frames provide enough room for different types of equipment (lights, video projectors, etc.).

Equipment trays made of maritime pine can be used to locate a range of equipment between two panels or in the middle of a ceiling. Recesses can be easily cut in these trays in our workshop or on site according to the dimensions below to accommodate round or rectangular shaped equipment.

Spacers make it possible to separate two Stereo panels simply and precisely. They have holes in the middle for a light rail to be attached. They can also be easily drilled for other needs. Fixing a spacer between two panels requires no tools.

Positioned above a meeting table or a workstation, Texaa’s acoustic lighting platform comprises two 1,200 x 1,200-mm Stereo acoustic panels fixed to a frame made of maritime pine, which enables different types of lighting to be accommodated: a light panel on the same level as the acoustic panels or a light hanging through the frame.

Depending on requirements, Stereo acoustic panels or Stereo Air open mesh panels can be made into invisible access hatches. These do not change the appearance of the ceiling and provide easy access to the area above it. An inconspicuous latch makes it possible to open the hatch.
